International Romani Day

International Romani Day was established in 1990 in the Polish town of Serock, in memory of the First International Roma Congress, which was held in London from the 4th of April to the 8th 1971.

On this occasion, in cooperation with the Association of Roma Students, the EU info point in Novi Sad marked the International Roma Day with workshops and a lecture on cultural heritage, as well as contemporary Roma culture. The program was held in the Cultural Center of Novi Sad on April 9. As part of the workshop on Roma language heritage and Roma literature, Roma poetry was read accompanied by Marija Aleksandrović on the piano. After this activity there was a workshop about traditional Roma dance, led by musicologist and PhD student at the Academy of Arts, Aleksandra Aleksandrović. Then there was a public lecture on the European history of Roma, which was led by the painter Dr. Zoran Tairović.
